Within earshot of the sea at Takou
Bay and surrounded by 150 acres of certified organic pasture, native
bush and 5 acres of sub-tropical gardens, the 3 Cottages and recently
completed Lodge provide boutique self-catering accommodation that
is eco-friendly yet still indulgent.
Eco-Friendly Accommodation
Choose from Magic Cottage, a
cosy solar powered studio perched on the river bank – the
perfect romantic retreat complete with luxurious al fresco claw
foot bath overlooking the river; or Summer
and River Cottages – more
spacious 2-bedroom cottages built with environmental sensitivity
and set in the beautiful gardens a minutes walk from the riverbank.
Each Cottage has its own private romantic al fresco claw foot
bath either perched on its deck (River Cottage) or hidden in The
Summer House (Summer Cottage). Finally The
Lodge, our largest and most luxurious accommodation with its
warm timber interior, log fire, spa bath, beautifully appointed
kitchen and luxurious super-king and king bedrooms and bathrooms,
cathedral ceilings and uninterrupted views across the gardens
to the river.
Guests have access to all the amenities at Takou River including
the free kayaks, canoes and fishing rods; private Boathouse and
Jetty; beautiful private river frontage, secluded swimming spots,
established sub-tropical gardens and 150 acre organic farm, and
of course the beautiful deserted sandy beaches a short paddle
downstream at Takou Bay.
Enjoy the flourishing birdlife; wander the beautiful riverbank
through native bush; escape the noise and stress of daily life
in the enchanted gardens; borrow a rod and fish or find your own
secluded swimming spot in the river; paddle a kayak from the Boathouse
to deserted sandy beaches; relax, refresh and romance in your
very own private al fresco claw foot bath – or simply bask
in the bliss of doing absolutely nothing.
Free WiFi, Broadband Internet and local calls are available
from the Office and there is no cell phone coverage. The cottages
all have CD players and i-pod docs and are TV-free. A DVD player,
books, CDs and magazines are available.

the cottages and the wealth of native birdlife is a testament
to our biodiversity plan and land management techniques which
include fencing all the riparian boundaries, planting over 15,000
native trees since 2004 and eliminating the use of any chemical
sprays, pesticides or fertilisers. Managing the Cottages and Lodge
in line with our environmental
action plan (Word Doc, 800KB), we make every effort to ensure
your stay has the minimal environmental impact, from solar lighting
at Magic Cottage; rainwater harvesting and use; chemical free
water treatment; grey water recycling for irrigation; energy efficient
appliances and lighting; recycling and composting facilities;
low toxicity, biodegradable eco-friendly cleaning products; recycled
products; instantaneous gas hot water; Carbon offset programme
and more.
